Dear Friends,

MTNL has started providing ADSL connections on the existing
telephone lines in Delhi, multiplexing (FDM) voice and data. 64 KBPS
100 hrs per month home connection (I was told 1/7) is for Rs 990/-
per month. Commercial connection may be 1/3 and is costlier.

Presently this service is available in Rajauri Garden, Chanakyapuri
and Mehrauli. The roll out for other areas depends on customer
response. MTNL has not advertised this any where except on the web
site. When I called up various people in MTNL (and the SDE
responsible for this), even they were surprised. MTNL may be willing
to put a DSLAM in your area if there is sufficient response. No one
could tell me about the backbone or splitter or a roll out plan. But
they do intend to provide it all over Delhi.

MTNL provides you a splitter (or an LPF and BPF combination) so that
your phone still remains powered by xchange while the ADSL signal is
tapped off for modem. You need to buy the ADSL modem (or MTNL
provides you Accucom iRacer 7000, which you pay for).

On my enquiry in the market, I found that Convergent
Communications/Delhi has various low cost ADSL modems (and some with
routing and NAT) available with them. For those interested,
Convergent is at 2469-1541 and 1543.

Details available at www.mtnl.net.in and at 2332-2622 Mr. AP Singh
  SDE or Sanchar Haats (2651-3888, 2410-8800, 2664-1620).

Please register your requirements at 1600-111172 so that the service
can be started in your area/exchange.

THIS is not a commercial solicitation for business. I am not selling
ADSL modems or this ADSL connection. This is an advance denial vide
some mails received, when ePC mail was sent.

Best regards,

 Atul Asthana
