Interesting question. This has come up earlier too on some mailing lists I've been subscribed to. By default the articles are copyright of the original author. However, I have no clue what the default license is. My rule of thumb is to treat all messages as being licensed under something like the GPL: I can use them in another context as long as I give credit to the original author and don't make them proprietary. Of course, you can always assign a specific license to your own messages. However It'd be a bit painful to suffix each and every message with `You can copy this message under the terms of the X license'. FWIW, you are free to use all my original content on the list under the terms of the GPL or the FDL.
