i have just discovered movix2.

it comes in three flavours, but basically, you just pop the cd into the pc,
boot the machine, and you have a machine that can then play your collection
of DVDs(!!!!!), VCDs, mpegs et al on your hard disks, or off networks, listen
to streaming radio, and play your collection of music in various formats as
well.
this is the knoppix of audio+video.
do check out the documentation pages, that explain some issues with nVidia,
since nV does not allow you to distribute their driver, a clever fix on it,
and its done. (knoppix has the driver, so it tells you how to extract the
drivers from your knoppix cd, and then run it with movix2.
and by the way, if you have one of those fancy tv tuner cards, it can run
with it as well.
i think this is the next hot thing after knoppix. and it uses all GPL-ed
software.
