It includes me too.

However, I am majorly looking at

(i) The service providers butting in on paid basis. This requires
locating Linux sys-integrators and service providers hence a request
to all the ilugd members and LFY for locating them. They can
load/install and configure Linux (like its done for windoz presently).

(ii) Training the teachers is a major task and I think if 52 of us can
help, one or two of us can devote a day/two days a year to do the job
of training teachers. I can ask my wife to do the co-ordination.

(iii) I guess these activities can be managed with minimal funding, if
any (or do we foresee funds requirements ?).

(i) I agree, this may happen again. Lets try and fill the gap by
asking service providers to do this at a minimal charge/one day
training paid by school.

(ii) Suggest otherways? Can we look at Delhi govt for help? Or
Shikshaindia or Arun Shourie? Any one with any links????

I will try and make NPS available for demos.

For tech support, the service provider should be used (which any way
is done presently for win PCs) failing standard ilug mail support to
service provider. Another way is to locate bright students (there will
be some) and put them on selflearn mode with email support from
ilugd/books and the documents on the web, this may be more workable
(works in my son's case) since the kids are curious and will like to
do something new. So train the teacher(s) and two bright kids and
empower them to use books/email/web to learn further and support their
school (I'll also like to include service provider's guy in training).

For marketing Linux to schools, lets get the NPS project publicised
(when completed) with TOI (which is distributed in lots of schools) or
other mags. However, we should target only non-govt schools since govt
schools are tied down by govt regs and may not have sufficient infra.
My son will be available twice, for 2 days a week (sat/sun) and I'll
be available for atleast two days a month for this project.

All of us can talk to our schools/colleges (the ones we studied in)
etc. to promote Linux and take our own schools/colleges as the target
for conversion.

I'll try for funding. But can we work threadbare?

Thats what drives the Linux community. Its commendable.

Hope we can make a try :-)
