Dear Friends,

Govt of India plans to provide IT infrastructure to schools (excerpt and
link below). India will endup funding MS unless, some of us take a little
time of and help educate the powers that be about Linux.

I'd request that if some one amongst us can create one set CDs for schools
and demonstrate (may be release it with a little help from our news media)
their usefulness, we can win a little piece of independence from MS.

I know of a similar exercise by KV Sangathan (through EdCIL, Educational
Consultant India Limited) to provide computers and e-learning to the all
the KVs all over the country.

EdCIL spent Crores of Rs. on Microsoft software (Win 98/2000, MS office),
apart from heavy servers for Back-office servers and antivirus software.

I saw a mail from Raj Mathur indicating availability of educational
software on Linux. I also know that the eGurucool (now acquired by NIIT)
     had its backend on Linux.

Friends, this group can create a lot of awareness about Linux and can (with
a little help from others) become a pressure group for promoting Linux.

Any one feels patriotic enough?? Let me know.

Best regards,
 Arjun
