Thats a great news. However, we would like to know what it really means to individual customers: Do they get something .... or is it a customised Kernel for the DoD by Redhat??

-------
Red Hat Linux joins Sun Solaris 7, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX 10.20 and Microsoft Windows 4.0 as a DII COE 4.x kernel. The Global Command and Control System and Global Combat Support System are built on top of the COE kernel, which includes not only an operating system but also tools and security extensions.

Besides the kernel layer, the COE has data exchange and application layers. All Defense Department command and control and national security systems are supposed to comply with the COE. DISA last year solicited public comments on open-source software in Defense systems, noting that a two-week e-mail survey by Mitre Corp. had identified 110 open-source applications in use at DOD.
