i have pursuaded some folks to switch their internal www and dhcp server to linux. they would also like to setup a firewall and proxy server. the following email explains their need. anyone willing to contribute time in *mumbai* for a one time setup? can compensate for time and expertise pls write to me. ------------ Desired Setup of Firewall and Web-Proxy The Internal network comprises of multiple PCs running Windows OS - (9x, ME, NT, 2K XP). All use Ethernet Hub/switch to interconnect. Current Setup: Windows 2K host named "X" - Runs internal WWW server (IIS4). - Runs internal mail server - Contains two Ethernet cards Ethernet Card 1 on "X" with static IP connects to internet using Leased line. - Leased line - connected to HDSL modem with Router interface - Router Interface connected to HUB/Switch - Windows 2K Internet sharing is enabled on this card Ethernet Card 2 on "X" with local IP (192.168.0.1) range works as a DHCP server. - Windows based clients use DHCP client on the internal network Desired Setup: PC with two network cards running Linux (RedHat 7.3) server as Firewall and Web Proxy - eth 0 with static IP connects to internet using Leased line. o Leased line - connected to HDSL modem with Router interface o Incoming calls to be allowed with authentication o Access methods to be allowed - FTP, telnet - eth 1 with local IP (192.168.xx.xx) as DHCP server o No specific protection required for outward calls from the internal windows nodes connected to this end o Usage monitoring by individual nodes and bandwidth distribution control required -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . ================================================ To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header.
