use a multiport modem card.

you should be okay with a serial multiport modem card (plugs into a PCI
slot), octopus cables, 10 modems (use USR V.Everything modems if you can
afford them), 10 telephone lines.

yeah you should but most hardware of this kind has excellent support in
the kernel ... the reason being that enough ISPs don't want to waste
their time with OSs for kids :  hardware vendors have a great incentive
to ensure that their hardware is linux compliant.

depends .... if you want authentication then you probably want RADIUS /
TACACS .... or you can go the PAM way and plug into an LDAP or a MYSQL
database. take a look at this (outdated) but still helpful HOWTO..
