[ilugd]: pls help

hi
i am a new user trying to figure out linux.pls help solving this problem :
My modem has started dialing to the isp but after tht wierd string of sound ,everything stops,only the lights on the modem blink a few times,....the network connection dialog box hangs and i have to kil the application and the connection also gets disconnected as i can see it from the modem lights(i have an external modem).

pls reply asap as to wat i should do.avneesh is enjoying linux thoroughly whereas i am not being able to do so.i have already installed linux 3 times.
