Hi,

I am having an internal modem of Motorola SM56 PCI Speakerphone Modem.

Some how I managed rpm for it from PC-Quest CD and from website (SM56_5.1_I386.rpm and sm56-85.1-10.i386.rpm) too but was not able to make it work in deferent distributions of Linux. They are

Redhat Linux 6.3

Redhat Linux 7.1

PCQuest Linux 7.0

Mandarke Linux 8.0

Mandrake Linux 8.2

Each of them showing error when I run the command :-

Sm56setup 852

Motorola SM56 SoftModem Setup for Linux

Building driver...

/usr/local/sm56/sm56.o -> /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/sm56

Creating device /dev/sm56...

Pointing /dev/modem to /dev/sm56...

Adding SM56 to /etc/modules.conf...

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/sm56

SM56 setup complete.

and in Redhat Linux 7.3 it runs the setup fine but the modem does not works.

I used ‘lsmod’ to check it as it was not listed then I used ‘insmod sm56’ it shows me segmentation fault later when I run ‘lsmod’ it listed it as sm56 but was showing used status making it unavailable for PPP to use it.

If any of U were able to make it work. Please let me know.

Regards,

Lalit Seth
