You can do quite a lot using Kdevelop to develop C++/Qt Apps. For Java there
is jBuilder which is the same as on windows (except that it doesn't come
with the windows theme under linux).

Have you tried out Delphi or C++ builder under windows. IMHO these are way
better than VB 6 and you get a proper type safe compiled language! Under
Linux you can get Kylix from borland, which is essentially a combination of
Delphi and C++ builder for linux. The apps that you build under linux can be
recompiled under windows if you don't use any linux specific features (You
don't need if you wan't to develop RAD VB style GUI/DB apps and if you use
CLX libraries). Note that C++ builder is essentially Delphi with your code
being written in C++ the VCL/CLX libraries are for most part the same as in
Delphi and written almost completely in Pascal. Also if you don't need C++
then Delhpi or Pascal under Kylix gives u the fast compile speeds. C++
Builder's compiler kills it. And if any of you think that VB is good and
there is no substiture for it under linux, then do check out Kylix. It is
better than using VB under win32 for DB & GUI apps! And apps can be
recompiled under windows ;)

Using wine, yes! You can't run many commercial apps under wine, but most
simple apps written for win32 should work.
