openoffice may convert a ppt. but then, you do get oo for win, gnulinux, mac, and hopefully for even more platforms, *unlike* mosoffice.
all you need to do is get hold of a copy of openoffice 1.01 or higher for whatever platform you choose, say, win, and create your presentation in it. i work professionally with pdf, and can tell you i am not too convinced about it as a presentation software. though it can handle transitions and full screen and stuff, converting a ppt to a pdf at an optimal resolution surprisingly bloats the pdf file size tremendously. i tinkered around and discovered the cause of this is microsoft's bloatware policy of developing. pdf for presentations only makes sense if you create your presentation in any other non-microsoft application and then add presentation and transition effects within acrobat. then, amazingly, the file size is stupendously small. in fact, that's when acrobat technology shines ahead of microsoft ppt. okay, here's another way you could handle your stuff. you could get hold of a copy of knoppix cd, the full distribution of linux that runs off one cd, without touching your hard disk. if you wish, you could install knoppix on your laptop's hard disk as well, and then boot into it. knopppix ships with openoffice, by the way. if you do not wish to install knoppix on your hard disk, you can run knoppix off your cd drive, use openoffice from within it, save your files on your hard disk (the data files of oo) and then use knoppix and openoffice to give your presentation off your laptop. so many options exists in front of you LL On Thursday 05 December 2002 03:09 pm, you wrote: > My laptop belongs to organisation and hope u know how its out here (all > licensed software).
