Fonts are like ascii in many ways. it has two tables in it. one is
called glyps I think the secound is the value. The valuse stores unicode
values. Any font for that matter hold both hindi and english glyphs.
What happens is when people design hindi fonts they take an old font
(english font) and add a table for the unicode hindi values. and to that
values hindi glyphs are attached. I know this because A guy working for
bangla linux project who was making fonts. So I got curious and opend
the font in font editor. There I was it had both bengali and english
glyphs. when i replaced the font to the gnome-terminal it showed
everything in english. the reason is that the unicode value that was
there (in my ls command ) were all in english. but the wierd thing was
bengali file names were displayed in bengali.
The moral of the story is quick brown for had the english unicode values
so it displayed the english glyphs in the font. try somethign hindi
values and i am sure it will show the text in hindi
