Hello,
I want to launch a Internet wide accessible web
based application from my machine (now running RH
8). We are connected to net using a leased line
from local ISP.
I got 3 options to connect my machine to net.
Out of this
 1) proxy and
 2) dhcp are working fine for my out going
connections, but users outside my network cannot
access my server. I do not have a registered host
name (is it possible for users outside my network
to access my machine using it's IP address in web
browser?)
 3) Third option is to use fixed static
IP/mask/Gateway/DNS alloted by ISP. But when I am
using the last option. "network start" is
complaining that
"Bringing up interface eth0: Error, some other
host already uses address a.b.c.d. (IP address
alloted to my machine from ISP)
But when I am using the same IP
address/dns/mask on a win2k machine, I am able to
launch my application and others can access it.
Also it seems to me that RH is slowly side
lining "linuxconf" (Xconfigurator too).
"linuxconf" and new RH "Network Configuration"
tool contradict each other in DNS/Gateway field.
What is preventing my machine to boot up with a
fixed IP provided by ISP? Any pointers are
welcome

Thank you
Ajith
