Hi Sandip, > I have a box having 256M RAM and 512M swap. Right now according to > "top" it has 150M free and is yet using 82M of swap. Can someone > explain why my machine is swapping even if so much RAM is left over?
You are not alone... Check http://symonds.net/~morpheus/sysinfo/ Might be because the swapping was required sometime in the past and is still shown as "occupied". In fact there is a distinction between "occupied memory" and "cached memory". Once all your memory has been accessed through the cache, the cached memory will be shown as the total amount of the ram, even if all of it is not actually in use at the moment.
