did you do woody or potato ?
if its woody I think kernel 2.4 is avaliable in packages just deselect it
and install a kernel above 2.4 plus modules
now edit
/etc/modules and write
sound

now edit /etc/modules.conf
alias sound-slot-0 emu10k1
alias sound-service-0-0 i810_audio

this should do the i_810 sound
for Display the main question :)

you need to have X version above 4.1.X

edit /etc/Xf86config-4

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Generic Video Card"
    Driver "i810"
    Option "UseFBDev" "true"
    VideoRam 8192
EndSection

you can also compile your own kernel and choose i_810 support on compile time
as in when you do make menuconfig or make xconfig
