Vijay,
      rpm is the command to remove and add pacakages. try info rpm.
      rpm -i pack_name for installing.
      rpm -e pack_name for uninstalling (check I'm not sure)
      First rpm -q pack_name to see if package is installed .(Here pack_name can be 
any package name like try *gnome* with -q to find about your current gnome version 
etc.)
