The default boot image for RedHat 7.2 had a bug in the Adaptec/Advansys
SCSI controller driver. Maybe that bug was there in 7.1 too ?? RedHat
7.1 has a lot of bug fixes but unstable it definitely isnt as someone
commented. It probably is a good idea to go straight to RedHat 7.3 or
RedHat 7.2 atleast . In case you are trying to install anything less
than 7.3 do use the updated boot image and boot from the floppy instead
of the CD.

Other than that I hope you didnt forget to do a low level format of the
SCSI disk I believe it is mandatory on a new disk.
