[FYI -- this looks good. Anyone got big bandwidth and a CD writer so we can download some of these distributions (Knoppix, Blue Linux, etc) and evaluate them for the schools project? -- Raju]
I just tried it out and it seems to work very well! http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html Knoppix is a debian based Linux on a live CD. For me it was primarily useful to talk to my Linux box (which is headless) from my desktop (which is windows based), without using crippled interfaces like VNC. VNC doesn't let me use advanced X extensions like RENDER (needed for anti-aliased fonts) or to play movies. Now I can carry this CD around, stick it into any box and hit reboot and chances are that it'll detect all the hardware and configure it right, automatically. There is also some kewlware on the CD which might impress folks you're trying to convince to "switch to" Linux. Now I know what you debian guys are talking about :) -Arun ================================================ To subscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with subscribe in subject header To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header Archives are available at http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd%40wpaa.org =================================================
