Hi,
I don't see where this discussion is headed. The basic difference between Oracle and mySQL would be in the area of Query Optimization. Probably, this is the most critical phase which distinguishes from one DBMS to other. And Oracle has a wonderful Query Optimizer. Query Optimization is a very difficult thing to implement and perfect, Oracle has perfected that over the years. You may have 99 other things which slow the system down, but just one well implemented Query Optimizer would be enough to give those performance gains, not present in mySQL. And probably, that is why Oracle costs money. mySQL is a good database for small applications. Before using any product it is very important to note the application domain it is made for. mySQL was never meant to give Oracle a run for its money, it was always intended to provide a small, free DBMS, though it is growing into a better and bigger product.
