A Good Solution to this can be our own indegnious Simputer.
It is cost-effective and at the same time it can be shared in a group using
smart-cards.
And best of all, its running Linux.

As i understand, the pdas will be used only for entering orders and
there will not be more than 10-15 orders per pda per day. For this kind of
load, i wud recomend that u go for any pda that will allow u the following:
1. ability to write your own apps
2. around 2-3mb of storage to store the app and any data that is required by
the app (a database wud typically be requied at the pda side to store things
like prev orders, customer ids, and most imp a list of all the products,
etc)
3. ability to sync the app with the main app..
for this kinda thing, i wud say that any palm os based pda with enough
storage wud be good enough. Though the costs for such a pda wud be in the
range of arnd 8-15k! Now next thing that u will need is the app for the pda.
For palm based pdas, u can use simple rad tools or cpp. Alternatively u can
get some ms pocket pc based pda. Those are typically the compaq iPaq type
pdas, which wud cost arnd 15-25k each. With the ms pocket pc u can use
things like vb to develop apps, and u shud be having access db support too
(i am not sure abt this). Although u hav linux pdas available nowadays, i
hav never seen/used one so i can't comment on using/programming them ;) Also
if the main billing app is written by a 3rd party, then consider any options
that he might suggest too :)
