IMHO, linux only has the ide-cd driver module(this particular one is an IDE not SCSI one, right?). I have had a creative infra cd drive before, and I don't remember requiring special drivers/module for it.
look for ide-cd.o file(redhat normally compiles it as a module) somewhere in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/. In RH 7.2, I sometimes faced a problem with the CD drive too. To correct it, I did this - 1. As root run 'rmmod ide-cd' 2. and then 'insmod ide-cd'. If you are at the console you should see some message indicating drives found by the driver module. You should be able to mount cdrom drive after that. Some problem in the kernel initialisation sequence in their supplied heavily patched kernel, I guess. I never found the problem recurring on my 2.4.17 compiled kernels that I use now. - Sandip ----- Original Message ----- From: Yash Dayal To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2002 1:48 AM Subject: [ilugd]: 2 problems <-- one solved i have solved the first problem...The RAM in the machine was bad..and linux was not able to set up a ramdrive the other problem still remains...it seems REDHAT 7.2 has removed the drivers for Creative Infra CD drive....MY CD is detected but the drivers are not there....how do i get my CD rom working? Well basically i have two problems... 1. Whenever I try to install linux, i always get a kernel panic error (unable to load root filesystem) whichever mode i tried....text, expert, rescue....its still the same problem... The config of this machine is 10 GB HDD as primary Master 20 GB HDD as primary slave cd rom is secondary master 2. On my own machine, amd 400Mhz, 64 Mb ram, i am running linux successfully, uptil redhat 7.1. now after upgrading to 7.2 (also a clean install) i am unable to Acccess my CDROM drive, i always get "/dev/cdrom is not a valid block device" whenever i try to mount it... hoping for some helpful answers from the linux gurus out there....
