hi, a "professional" apology comming ur way kapil. i am sorry if i offended u. that was not my intention but being professional also includes taking things in ur stride... doesnt it? i dont wanna take this debate about whose stupid any further. its not gonna solve my problem.(tho i'd love to... hehhe)
as for getting back to the problem... any solutions? cos i have another one ready. the thing is that i am running kernel 2.2.x/XFree86-3.x on a comp that has the i815 chipset... now the graphics card is not supported yet(in this version).. so i decided to use frame buffers... well it all worked fine(nice penguin during startup) except for the fact that my screen resolution(in text mode) wont go beyond the default. and as for starting X, well there is absolutely no modeline(in XF86Config) that is working with fbdev. can anyone point me to a XF86Config file that he/she is using? or to a solution to getting the correct modeline.-> i tried setting the same value of modeline in the XF86Config that i got from fbset. still ... im stuck. yelp... please.
