Indian Telephone and telegraph act prohibits unlicenced
wireless communication within the union of India for outdoor use.
Any radio equipment that you deploy can be legally used
indoors but not outdoors. You will need to take special permission to do so.
The concerned authority is the Wireless "Promotion" Council of India or WPC
for short. There are also several guidelines as to the spec and signal
strength of the radio equipment. Also, I suspect that the act only allows for
point to point or point to multipoint links where all end points are known and
fixed. "Open" use may not be allowed at all. Please check.
In the US where these technologies come from, the 2.4 Ghz band
is free for anyone to use anywhere. This is why local area radio networks
exist there.
You may use radio indoors. If you plan to deploy this outdoors
for internet distribution, the legislation makes it quite painful.
