Available resources tend to fluctuate a lot. More so when collaboration is involved. IMO, the model will work only if a minimum amount of resources can be guaranteed over a suitable period of time. The other part is sustainability. Usually in a FOSS community, we want our model to be self-sustaining - the details are important.
