Dear Satya,

After PhD if you want to join academic institutes then in some places
people asked for preceding degree is in the relevant branch.
Otherwise, most of the places, it is hardly matter.

Enjoy your research and then publish good papers in hi-impact factor
journals/conferences.

Matlab and R are two good languages (sometime framework) in research where
you can design/integrate almost anything.
