Dear Knights; I am in the process of installing Debian with LXDE, the root account boots up to the GUI without problems; the user account freezes when startx is run and the Xorg log file indicates inability to run the 'evdev' module and inability to change directory and XKB could not compile. sudo chmod 777 /var/tmp usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled/ points to /var/lib/xkb/ which does not exist and has to be created. chmod ug+rwx,o+rwt /tmp do not use numlock
