+ paying the author(s) to create the content.  IMO, this is
irrespective of the distribution media (paper, CD, 'Net download).

It depends on the lic. under which the digital product is released.

Broadcasters (TV, Radio, Internet Radio) do pay royalties.

Remix -- IANAL, howwer I believe one needs to be careful about the
lic. from the original content creator(s).
For instance - CC and GNU document lic. stipulate conditions for
remixing the original content.
