W.r.t free command, another useful thing could be 
proc_sys_vm_drop_caches

I still see many Sawp twice the RAM, but now I find the best way to go is swap 
= ram, and swappiness is zero. Adding in more physical memory suits high memory 
usage best, of course. An example in Ubuntu is at
