I am now replying using the new interface and have no issues using it to send interleaved, trimmed replies. Things you might have to do before being able to post properly: 1. Select plain text mode as the default. 2. When you reply to any email, the cursor is on top with a [..] button below. Clicking that expands the quote of the mail you're replying to and you can easily interleave and trim your replies.
