My mail, on a second read, seems to convey that this is possible only in a bridged scenario. That is a wrong notion. The method of egress filtering on the WAN and LAN interfaces in a normal routing scenario is also a perfectly valid and sensible configuration that will shape incoming from and outgoing traffic to the WAN/Internet.
