Hi All, I am sure most of you would be aware of the recent developments in Gaming on Linux, Steam - a gaming distribution company with ~ 70% market share of gaming market, has launched its beta version for Linux client and is also actively promoting usage of Linux to all users.
Gaming in Linux is a much awaited feature and Steam venturing into Linux will hopefully encourage many game development companies to port existing popular titles and also create new games with native support for Linux. I have read many stories / concerns of people dual-booting Windows only for the sake of games. Gabe Newell, CEO of Steam, is much bullish on Linux as a platform and planning for Console - Steam Box, as well. I have downloaded Steam client for Linux in my laptop (runs Linux Mint 13) which has modest specs (4GB RAM, 1GB Nvidia Graphics card - Optiumus technology and hence needs installation of bumblebee). I am not much of a gamer myself but installed Steam such that 1) To experiment - Team Fortress II is a free-to-play first person shooter game which runs fine but massive 12 GB download 2) By installing we expand Linux user base. Though, Steam would surely expect to buy game titles. Keen to hear experiences of other ilugc memebers on this subject. Cheers, Anand R P.S.
