Hi , I have a rhel 5.4 desktop for official work. I have been usign google chrome on my windows laptop and got quite used to it. I like it very much. Now i want to stop depending on windows laptop and migrate to linux desktop. All problems have been solved in moving to linux desktop except for one not so critical but good to have requirement being fulfilled . That requirement is having either google chrome or chromium on my desktop, Right now i am using firefox for all the activites. I have able to get exchange emails working with thunderbird and vpn to connect, etc. But i am unable to get chrome up and running. What google says is rhel packages are very old and they wont provide pre build rpm s for rhel. And what chromium says is they need a list of packages with the minimum required package versions. And some of they packages are not provided by rhel5.4. The highest package available in rhel repos are atleast one minor point below the required package version. Thus effectively saying what google is saying at the begining in simple words. You cannot install chromium on rhel5.4 Since rhel 5.4 is too old. I cant raise a ticket with rhel guys b'cos it has to be routed through the company and those are lot of hassle. If i press through then then they will ask me to switch to windows laptop they have given me. I see that a japanese guy have been able to provide a repo package for getting chromium browser up and running in centos5. But that refuses to install in rhel5 saying the obivous thing that my platform is not centos5. So i am asking the community if anyone has been successful or know how to successfully get chrome up and running in rhel5.4 x64. I would also require flash to be working.
