IMO, certification is an endorsement of the subject matter that you
claim to know.

Therefore, first you should acquire knowledge in the subject matter,
do some work in that area and then go for certification.

What is necessary is to show that you have done a couple of projects
using the technology (JBOSS in this instance).  To do cert. or not is
a matter of choice.

Cert. or no cert. a competent interviewer will know your depth of
knowledge within 5 mins. into the interview.
