+1. Every time I'm feeling rather chuffed that I managed to crack a hard problem, I go back and try some functional programming. It quickly brings me back to the familiar "I'm not worthy" feeling every time I try to work through SICP exercises. Why just one? Personally, I would recommend you learn half a dozen languages at a time - Lua, Io, Haskell, Clojure, Erlang, etc. Or Javascript (I'm not kidding).
