I find this a lot in personal mails. It is not at all annoying at least to me. ;) I find that it is man's natural thirst to show one up over others. ;) It also explains that by mailing from a handheld device, they cannot spend much time or don't have enough convenience of a PC or laptop to mail a lot of text. I mostly find this with Blackberry originated mails.
