Neat. Essentially it's a "cheap modem" - around Rs 2,200 (incl.
shipping). I wasn't expecting to find it in India, but there were
surprisingly 5 pieces on eBay.in. A seller from Delhi shipped it here. I
tweeted the fact, and they were all gone after a week or so :).

It has 16MB RAM (not much, essentially - Tomato actually reports only
14MB effective). The wi-fi coverage is pretty good, I should say. My
neighbors report a strong signal anywhere in their house. Didn't do any
tests apart from that, but if you want me to run any specific ones, I'll
be glad to. I'm not sure it will serve all your needs, but here a few
specs and opinions that might help you (there's a recommendation for a
slightly more powerful one)

Mind you, that's from 2008, and it does have USB 2.0:

But perhaps look at slightly more powerful ones for your need. The
dd-wrt device support page lists the compatibles ones:

So far, it works great. I haven't really got around to testing the
functionality of the usb port (bought it quite recently), but it's
definitely something I would like to explore a bit soon. but The boot
up sequence while flashing the firmware is a bit confusing, but nothing
too complicated. This article helped me a lot:

Good luck, and keep us posted as to what you choose and your experiences.

Vamsee.
