Knowing why a group exists, and what values, principles they stand for is important to be part of the group. Free/open source software developers work with it for a reason, that they enjoy the availability of source, and they like to share the know-how with other people, which is not true with proprietary software with their EULA (even if it runs on *nix). So, proprietary software is a definite no-no in any F/OSS group. The very basic fundamental principle that we like to share source code and knowledge with other like minded people is why such F/OSS user groups exist, and there is no room for comparison when this basic principle is ignored.
