I am assuming that they have been using the Open Source edition of the
product <http://www.zimbra.com/products/zimbra-collaboration-suite.html>

When they state that Zimbra is too slow, what do they mean - does the
application take time to parse mailstores ? They may need help in
sizing the hardware

It is a good idea to use a traditional mail client or, even the Zimbra
desktop edition with the Zimbra backend server
