Hi,

     Automatic updates are very important for any computer connected to the 
internet. But most of the Windows machines disable it due to the "Windows 
Genuine Advantage" problem. Further, with Linux you will need to install 
software from the on-line repository which will also consume your download 
limit. I strongly suggest you to go for an unlimited connection. You can also 
try other ISP like You telecom, Tikona, etc,. for cheaper unlimited 
connections. But, if you still want to disable automatic updates, you can do it 
with the help of Synaptic Package Manager, in Ubuntu.


P.S: MP3, DVD codecs and Flash plugins will also have to be downloaded from the 
Internet

hi,
i am going to apply for bsnl limited plan,now am using ubuntu.. my
friends said limited plan is dangerous,they will not show correct
bandwidth usage it will end up in huge bills.
how to check correct bandwidth usage and how to stop automatic
updates,no application should connect internet without my permission,
what to do for that?
