Dear all, Yesterday (12/11/10), we setup a 60 seat FOSS lab in Muthayammal Engineering College, Namakkal District, (http://www.muthayammal.ac.in/) for the department of CSE using Fedora-13.
After starting the lab setup,* *I had a brief discussion with HOD/CSE Mr. Senthil Kumar and he requested for a guest lecture on FOSS for the 3rd year students of CSE and I delivered a guest lecture with demonstrations using a Fedora-13 desktop. In the evening, we had a discussion with the Principal Dr. M.Madheswaran, Secretary Mr. K. P. Ramaswamy regarding the open source implementation throughout the institution. The secretary expressed his idea of implementing open source software throughout the institution as he wants to make better use of the existing IT infrastructure by their students. It was decided to convert many of the labs to open source software from the next semester/academic year. Everyone in this institutions is very interested / enthusiastic about open source software. The foss lab setup was done by lecturers, sys. admins, lab assistants (as I was simply watching the whole thing). A Faculty Development programme on FOSS is planned for the dept. staffs between December 13-17. For any details, pl. contact Mr. Bhaskaran, Asst.
