Hi,

I use thunderbird. Installed enigmail plugin to be able to use GPG
alongside. Now the thing is my .gpg directory is owned by root and
thunderbird runs as user. So I really can't add my keys to enigmail. I know
I can change ownership of .gpg to user and use enigmail. But I'm not sure if
that's safe.

I searched online for gpg safe practices. I didn't get any result that said
anything about the consequences of not having root ownership for .gpg
directory. So I want to know.

Running thunderbird as root is not really an option unless there's a way to
import all my mail addressbook, calendar etc to the root user instance
easily.

Help me please.
