How to see installed applications in ubuntu like in windows  
XP->Programs->Installed softwares?

Two places. "Applications->Ubuntu Software Centre->Installed Software"  
(easiest) or "System->Administration->Synaptics Package Manager". Here  
search for the application you wish to know if it is installed. It will  
have a tick next to it.
