Get a brief overview of how many files and directories are installed

    $ locate -S

This locate command is provided through the mlocate package, installed by
default on most GNU/Linux distributions.

The output is self-explanatory- it provides an overview of how many
directories and files are on your system.
Ex:

 shr...@arul-desktop:~$  locate -S
Database /var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db:
    33,159 directories
    3,72,258 files
    2,23,63,372 bytes in file names
    87,22,893 bytes used to store database
