Thank you, will check it out and also nmzmail (which came up with
'apt-cache search mairix') for my own use.

But the original request is for an organisation which is tech-savvy,
but unfortunately [1] filled with people from a M$ and related
consulting background. Commandline search and/or mutt (for nmzmail) is
not likely to fly.

[1] Because they are used to either standalone desktops/laptops and
have very little experience with the productivity coming from a campus
of always-on networked machines, as opposed to sporadic Internet
connections.
