There is a myth being spread, deliberately or otherwise that viruses and spam can be combated by using "original" software. I don't know who got this crazy notion first but I heard it way too many times. If a virus exploits vulnerabilities in the software or engages in social engineering, "original licensed" copies of the same software would have the exact same problems. While "piracy" is indeed a problem and I would certainly encourage end users to abide by licenses for the proprietary software they are using or better yet, switch to FOSS, the false virus propaganda should really stop.
