Hi all,

I've had some free time yesterday, and was able to setup a basic structure for ilugc.org. Right now, all the other domains, ilugc.com, ilugc.net and ilugc.info should redirect to www.ilugc.org.

I'm not sure about the status of ilugc.in, because Balachander seems to have put a static page too (which I copied some content and layout from, thanks :). He hasn't clarified yet on the status of the domain, and going by the footer of that site, I'm assuming he wants to keep it for himself (sorry for the assumption Bala, you're free to clarify otherwise).

The code of the site is here: http://code.google.com/p/ilugc/, also accessible from the site navigation itself. As you can see, there is plenty of info to be added. I think the intro is woefully inadequate, and somebody needs to fill in the stellar community work some of us do, including the college outreach programmes.

Please get in touch with me for committer access. I want to invite Bharathi, SK, KG, Raman and whoever else is ready to take on the responsibility for owner/deployer access. Kindly respond with your preferred email ids (to me) so that I can add you to the project. I've added the required info for what commiter/owner roles imply, please take a look at the project wiki.

Feel free to contribute ideas, improvements, issues, whatever. If you can code html/css, just ask for committer access :). I'm thinking the next priority is setting up the jobs board (at jobs.ilugc.org). I'm intending to try out jobberbase (http://www.jobberbase.com/). If anybody knows of a better option, please let me know.

Finally, the site is currently running on my own vps. So I'll be a little reticent to give sudo access to others. I'd like this to change as soon as possible. I haven't yet gotten the chance to ask Linode/Slicehost. I'll do so today, but in case they say no (there is a good chance of that - we don't have proper traffic stats to show them to get them interested - for e.g, how many current members do we have?), we'll have to arrange a process for this. A linode 360 vps (basic) costs close to $204 per year (includes 15% discount if we pay at one time) - that's close to 10,000 rupees.

The easiest way I see for this is to hold 'contribution drives'. Select a cause, like the last time we did for the ILUGC Prizes, and ask for contributions. A few of us just transferred the money to Bharathi's bank a/c the last time around. We can do something similar, and somebody who has a credit card can pay for the vps. If you guys want me to do this, I'll do it by all means, but please request my bank a/c personally. I believe people who have accounts in other banks other than mine can pay through NEFT. What do you guys think?

Vamsee.
