Redmine (http://www.redmine.org/) is a good alternative for trac.
if you dont mind installing and managing the whole ruby stack, yes its a
bit nicer than trac. But comes without the large community around trac,
or the plugins, or the features - and doesnt really address the same
user-space as bugzilla :)
for anything serious or a large project with more than 100 people who
need access, bugzilla is still the point. MantisBT comes in a second
place, but only if you want to stick with the web and only if you dont
need need as much tier control. Stuff like Trac/Redmine are a very very
distant 3rd.
