First of all, Please start a new thread for a new post. You had replied in an unreleated thread. The best way to "learn" Linux is to work on it and not take shortcuts for things like printing a file by rebooting to Windows. If you want to be a developer, my all time favorite collection of tips (thanks to Shakthi Kannan) is at http://www.shakthimaan.com/downloads/glv/presentations/gnubie.html Which software did you install? Most software's executables goes to the /usr/bin directory. Some larger self contained software go to /opt It should have appeared in the Applications menu if it was GUI based. Else Go to the terminal and type the name of the executable. /usr/bin is in the PATH. So you need not type /usr/bin/<appname> Also Perl is often cited as the language heavily used in Bioinformatics. I am not sure about that. But http://docs.rinet.ru/P7/ is a nice book to start off with perl in that case. --- Ashok `ScriptDevil` Gautham _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email ilugc-requ...@ae.iitm.ac.in with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
