If you mean an internal DVD writer that connects over the IDE interface I use an LG GH22 with no trouble. Be aware that you need an 80-wire ATA cable though, using a 40-wire cable gave me I/O errors. Frankly, I've never heard of an internal DVD drive that didn't work with Ubuntu.
